Rick Ouellette/Placeology

About

I am a photographer and writer from the Boston area.

Through my “Placeology” series, I strive to give fresh attention to the often-overlooked legacies of our built environment. These can be places both grand or humble, uplifting or foreboding, eerie or comforting. Tied into the concepts of urban exploring and dark tourism, subjects include faded manor estates, amusement parks, roadside attractions, abandoned institutions and the gargoyles and statues that loom just above our heads, too often unnoticed. I hope the “Placeology” images appeal both on a purely visual level as well as fostering awareness of our collective built heritage.
